It had been a 55 mile day from Safford with over 4,700 feet of climbing to the pass.\u00a0 And . . . it was VERY quite (didn\u2019t hear any snoring, including my own!<\/p>\n<p>The first view out of the tent looked like sunshine . . . half hour later is was VERY overcast. I thought I\u2019d better get up PRONTO and get everything down and packed away in case it would rain. No cell phone coverage up here in the sticks!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/450.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"450\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/450_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"450\" width=\"1004\" height=\"628\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The sag arrived to pick up my \u2018stuff\u2019 at 8:00am. Great timing. Those that rode today sagged either to Three Way or up and over the pass.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/451.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"451\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/451_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"451\" width=\"1004\" height=\"611\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Two miles down the side of the mountain was the New Mexico state line and a time change for us. Arizona doesn\u2019t use Day Light Savings Time.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/452.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"452\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/452_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"452\" width=\"1004\" height=\"552\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We dropped many feet and soon we were in pasture land with cattle . . . and some lonely, solemn looking spaces. It ended up being a very funny weather day. Cloudy and chilly all day. Long fingered gloves and leg warmers finally came off about 10:00am.<\/p>\n<p>One of the only places with services was a small burg named Buckhorn. I stopped at the Post office . . .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/459.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"459\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/459_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"459\" width=\"1004\" height=\"478\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . to see where the store was and the Postmaster directed me to the Last Chance Liquor Store!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/453.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border: 0px;\" title=\"453\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/453_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"453\" width=\"988\" height=\"504\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Only store in town!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/454.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"454\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/454_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"454\" width=\"1004\" height=\"566\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Jeb, the owner, and his neighbor Pete, were having an early morning beer and discussing Pete\u2019s bandaged hand. He had injured it after from falling off his deck. Had a nice conversation with them but soon it was time to head towards Silver City.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/455.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"455\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/455_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"455\" width=\"1004\" height=\"605\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We could use one of these little rigs for a sag wagon . . . but no title included!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/456.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"456\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/456_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"456\" width=\"1004\" height=\"502\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This was interesting . . . a water tank used for thirsty cattle\u00a0 that had grown covered with cat tails!! You can see a thirsty \u2018doggie\u2019 on the left side of the photo. He was VERY interested in me but would not come any closer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/457.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"457\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/457_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"457\" width=\"1004\" height=\"573\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Just another road side memorial, one of way too many we have seen. By the names it sounds like they were all kids. Interesting there seemed to be a bottle of Jack Daniel&#8217;s available\u00a0 for visitors!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/458.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"458\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/458_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"458\" width=\"1004\" height=\"453\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Finally saw a stream with some actual water flowing through it. Not sure what happened to the dam bank but it looks like who ever constructed it may have had a \u2018three martini lunch\u2019.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/460.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"460\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/460_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"460\" width=\"1004\" height=\"761\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Saw my first dead critter along the road, a deer.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/461.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"461\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/461_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"461\" width=\"1004\" height=\"680\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>First one of these we have seen on our trek. If you look close you\u2019ll see two hawks looking for CHOW!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/462.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"462\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/462_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"462\" width=\"1004\" height=\"669\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We finally came to the Continental Divide a few miles before Siler City. The pass yesterday was about the same elevation, so all of todays DOWN was regained before we reached the city limits.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/463.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"463\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/st\/03\/463_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"463\" width=\"1004\" height=\"542\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There must be finally a downhill into town as we passed these water tanks had some interesting art work!<\/p>\n<p>Dinner tonight at The Steakhouse, where we were promptly told they were out of Rib Eye!<\/p>\n<p>Tomorrow is a well deserved rest day.
