The original city was here around 1280 AD but had to be moved due to floods. These are the temple ruins. Chiang Mai\u2019s location became the new city, which is the meaning of its name. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"728\" title=\"day12_02\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_02\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_02_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Today is \u201cChildren\u2019s Day\u201d across Thailand. There are many celebrations taking place, including this parade which made us alter our route! It would not be the only event today that changed our route.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_03.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"804\" height=\"1146\" title=\"day12_03\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_03\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_03_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We stopped at this important structure which combined influences from both Burmese and the Lanna people\u2019s architecture. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_05.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"520\" title=\"day12_05\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_05\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_05_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The reason behind the Lady Cannot Enter rule at some temples: Woody explained that this is not based on hierarchy or status, but based on past days when feminine hygiene products did not exist. Women were banned from temples. It is of course not truly necessary in modern times, but some more traditional sites still follow those old rules. Our ladies were aghast until they understood the story!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_06.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"493\" title=\"day12_06\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_06\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_06_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Important monks at this site. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_07.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"750\" title=\"day12_07\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_07\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_07_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While we were there, this lovely group joined us. They were getting ready for a ceremony in their finery. From the Lanna tribe. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_08.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"893\" title=\"day12_08\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_08\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_08_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Stylin\u2019!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_09.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"664\" title=\"day12_09\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_09\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_09_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We rode through beautiful groves of trees and on many quiet roads past private homes. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_10.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"654\" title=\"day12_10\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_10\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_10_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our cultural stop today was at a woodworking shop, where they made all kinds of large and creative furniture and sculptures. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"588\" title=\"day12_11\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_11\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_11_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>These are \u201cspirit houses\u201d to keep bad spirits at bay. Families hope to keep the spirits outside of their house and instead in these lovely spirit houses.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_12.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"710\" title=\"day12_12\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_12\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_12_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Wooden horse sculptures. In the past teak was used by this shop, but due to its scarcity they now use other woods. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_13.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"763\" title=\"day12_13\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_13\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_13_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Baaa, baaa.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_14.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"810\" title=\"day12_14\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_14\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_14_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sheep\/goat with attitude!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_15.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"671\" title=\"day12_15\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_15\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_15_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Soon we were pedaling along&nbsp; the Ping River, and we could see down the banks to where a lot of freshwater fish rearing ponds were located. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_16.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"600\" title=\"day12_16\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_16\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_16_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We stopped at a hatchery production business, and learned that they are raising Tilapia here.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_17.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"661\" title=\"day12_17\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_17\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_17_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Our important temple of the day was in the town of Lamphun, Wat Prathart Hari Phun Chai, dating from 1300 AD. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_18.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"779\" title=\"day12_18\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_18\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_18_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Impressive structures and sculptures.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_19.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"794\" title=\"day12_19\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_19\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_19_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Leaving Lamphun, we passed a funeral procession headed to the cemetery to cremate the body. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_20.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"731\" title=\"day12_20\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_20\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_20_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The entire structure will be burned. The family and friends were sad, but friendly to us. We had to wait for them to pass before continuing our cycling. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"465\" title=\"day12_21\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_21\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_21_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The group rode briskly for nearly an hour. Averaging 15 or 16 MPH. Whew! Had to stop for water and sustenance. Our drivers are always right there for us!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_22.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"564\" title=\"day12_22\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_22\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_22_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There was a check point on the road today; not sure why. Perhaps to prevent overloading like this?!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_23.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"714\" title=\"day12_23\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_23\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_23_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We rode through an area where there had been lots of fires, and we could see some open burns taking place as well. Here is the \u201cSmokey Bear\u201d fire campaign of Thailand. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_24.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"553\" title=\"day12_24\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_24\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_24_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>After 48 miles, we were done with our riding for the day. We stopped for lunch at the delightful Feel Good Restaurant along the highway.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_25.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"730\" title=\"day12_25\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_25\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_25_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We had an excellent lunch of sausage, tilapia, rice and vegetables. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_26.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"770\" title=\"day12_26\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_26\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_26_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Barb and MJ finished up with some yummy iced Thai tea latte. Their son, also in the photo, spent a year as a foreign exchange student in Washington state last year. They were wonderful hosts! They made our group feel like rock stars. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_31.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"667\" title=\"day12_31\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_31\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_31_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We jumped into the Spice Road vans, and rode about 45 minutes over a small mountain range (3000 feet) to our home for the night in Lamphang. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_32.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1004\" height=\"751\" title=\"day12_32\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" alt=\"day12_32\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day12_32_thumb.jpg\" border=\"0\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p>MJ had misplaced her phone, leaving it in her bike bag, and the bikes were all packed in the vans! Mr. Rin and Mr. Pree helped her find it, no problem!
