Rick texts MJ photos of his food to help get her out of bed and down to breakfast!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_03.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day04_03\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_03_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day04_03\" width=\"1004\" height=\"734\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>While we were in the lobby preparing for our day\u2019s outing, a family also staying at the hotel said to us: Where in the US are you from? Turns out they were from Minnesota! Then Minnie at the front desk shared that she spent last summer at the Wisconsin Dells! She was a lifeguard at the Wilderness Water Park there. Small world!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_04.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day04_04\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_04_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day04_04\" width=\"1004\" height=\"506\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We took a cab for a 30 minute ride to the old part of Bangkok to tour the Grand Palace. Covering about 60 acres, the site includes Thailand\u2019s most holy temple and a lavish palace that was once home for the\u00a0 king. In the past it was like the White House, with many government buildings. Today its use is mostly ceremonial.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_05.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day04_05\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_05_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day04_05\" width=\"1004\" height=\"534\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is Dusit Throne Hall with very lush grounds and fun topiary trees!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_06.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day04_06\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_06_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day04_06\" width=\"1004\" height=\"834\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Six pairs of demon giants like this one guard the entrance gates to the temple. Wouldn\u2019t want to meet him in the alley!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_07.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day04_07\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_07_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day04_07\" width=\"1004\" height=\"728\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>In the galleries (or loggia) around the temple are 178 mural panels depicting scenes from the Ramakien epic. This is the Thai version of a story from India about the triumph of good over evil.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_08.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day04_08\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_08_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day04_08\" width=\"1004\" height=\"650\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Warrior monkeys were part of the story, including this giant one that served as a living bridge for the troops to cross!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_09.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day04_09\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_09_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day04_09\" width=\"1004\" height=\"671\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Guardian giants\u2014they are BIG!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_10.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day04_10\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_10_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day04_10\" width=\"1004\" height=\"671\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This is a scale model of the famous Angkor Wat temple in Cambodia. Rick toured it while there last year. The King of Cambodia gave the sandstone carving as a gift to the King of Thailand.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day04_11\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_11_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day04_11\" width=\"1004\" height=\"918\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A guilded figure \u2013 but don\u2019t touch! Behind this gilded figure you see some of the eight prangs that tower above the Royal Chapel of the Emerald Buddha grounds. ( I don&#8217;t think the guy to the left with his jogging suit on was involved in such an event.)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_20.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day04_20\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_20_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day04_20\" width=\"1004\" height=\"626\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Grand Palace was originally built in the 1850s using European-style architecture. But that was not deemed appropriate, so Thai details were added.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day04_21\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2020\/01\/day04_21_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day04_21\" width=\"1004\" height=\"793\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Guard at the Grand Palace. Lots of the grounds were closed, and carefully guarded by these fellows.
