What a GREAT night we had last night at Kent and Barbara\u2019s very nice home. Great meal, great beverages and great conversation . . .<\/p>\n

\"3\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . it would have been\u00a0 Tom’s and my turn to cook tonight so of course we were happy to take credit for the GREAT meal!!!!<\/p>\n

\"2\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . .plenty of veggie and carne, whatever your choice!!!\u00a0 . . . and two cakes, ice cream and pies for dessert!!!! No body is probably going home loosing any weight from this trip.<\/p>\n

. . . a photo of our gang with Kent and Barbara. Thanks again for a great night. Kent will be riding with us today down to San Diego and then taking the train back to Carlsbad.<\/p>\n

On the road, we were back along the coast as the sun came up . . .<\/p>\n

\"day41_03\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . .\u00a0 morning commuting traffic was HEAVY . . .<\/p>\n

\"day41_04\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . the stoplight waits s are LONGGGGGGGG in CA and it gives you time to chat with those along side you. Here was Laura, with Benjy and Peanut in the lane next to me. Everybody was happy!!!<\/p>\n

Great graphics for a coffee shop we passed . . .<\/p>\n

\"day41_06\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . along the way there was a statue of a surfer decorated, for Halloween,\u00a0 as a hockey player. People dress him up for different occasions and holidays . . . FUN!!!<\/p>\n

\"day41_07\"<\/a><\/p>\n

The SurfLiner runs between San Diego and LA and we were right along the tracks today. Lots of trains and it has heavy local use . . . great idea!!!<\/p>\n

\"day41_08\"<\/a><\/p>\n

One of the only \u2018low riders\u2019 I have seen on the trip. I guess we didn’t get to the part of LA where they are common . . . this one was a surfing rig!!!<\/p>\n

\"day41_09\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . .\u00a0 first they go one way . . . then they go the other way!!!<\/p>\n

\"day41_10\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Along the way we stopped at the\u00a0 Swami monument and beach . . .<\/p>\n

\"day41_11\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . .\u00a0 where\u00a0 the Swami\u2019s \u2018rules of life\u2019 were many!!!!<\/p>\n

\"day41_12\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . here was a great hedge someone was manicuring to create an overhang over the sidewalk. VERY INVENTIVE!!!<\/p>\n

\"day41_13\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. .\u00a0 .the peloton stayed together for most of the day with Kent and Joe serving as our guides . . .<\/p>\n

\"day41_14\". . . i<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . in Encinitas we stopped by the \u2018boat houses\u2019. Two boats serving as dwellings in the middle of a\u00a0 \u2018normal\u2019\u00a0 city street block!!!<\/p>\n

\"day41_15\"<\/a><\/p>\n

tight quarters but no problems with wake or tides . . .<\/p>\n

\"day41_16\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . upper and lower berths . . .<\/p>\n

\"day41_17\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . .\u00a0 and room for puppies!!!<\/p>\n

\"day41_18\"<\/a><\/p>\n

We stopped at the local \u2018biker bar\u2019 for coffee and goodies . . .<\/p>\n

. . . as we parked our bikes I noticed some great stamps the city used when laying the sidewalk. Wonder if people make rubbings of these???<\/p>\n

\"day41_20\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . as usual, when we roll in, we sort of take over the place . . .<\/p>\n

\"day41_21\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . most places in town are VERY puppy friendly, and they are well behaved!!!!<\/p>\n

\"day41_22\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . we have stayed ahead of the fires as they started behind us. We rode right past Will Rodger’s Park and the Getty where fires are now blazing!!!<\/p>\n

. . . hard to decide what to have for our stop . . .<\/p>\n

\"day41_24\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . I settled on the almond pastry stuffed with marzipan.<\/p>\n

oh yeah . . .<\/p>\n

\"day41_26\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . and they roast their own coffee in the basement.<\/p>\n

\"day41_27\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . each city we rolled through had a boardwalk along the ocean and it was nice to get off the busy roads . . .<\/p>\n

\"day41_28\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . look out for the high speed SuperLiners at intersections!!!!<\/p>\n

\"day41_29\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Cedros Avenue was definitely the place if you needed ANYTHING to do with home design.<\/p>\n

\"day41_30\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . and it had some great mobiles!!!<\/p>\n

\"day41_31\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . the Belly Up is a great local venue for music, and known worldwide!!!<\/p>\n

\"day41_32\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . and still bringing in headliners!!!<\/p>\n

\"day41_33\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . Wisconsin\u00a0 products front and center!!!<\/p>\n

\"day41_34\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . .\u00a0 words to live by . . .<\/p>\n

\"day41_35\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . a BIG climb up to the top of Torrey Pines State Park gave us a great view of where we had been . . . .<\/p>\n

\"day41_36\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . and the \u2018yurt girls\u2019 lined up for a celebratory photo . . .<\/p>\n

\"day41_37\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . interesting sign at the golf course at the top of the mountain . . . lots of Porches and Mercedes in\u00a0 the lot!!!<\/p>\n

\"day41_38\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . it was a white napkin kind of place, outside of our lunch budget . . . had to eat the PB&J sandwiches in the parking lot . . . nobody got hit by an \u2018errant\u2019 golf ball.<\/p>\n

\"day41_39\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . nice course on the top of the world . . . .<\/p>\n

\"day41_40\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . there were a few more great home locations along the way . . . the sunsets must be fabulous EVERY night!!!<\/p>\n

We arrived at the hostel in San Diego, our home for the night, and tomorrows ride to the Mexican border will be the trip to an end.<\/p>\n

. . .\u00a0 nice \u2018living room\u2019 with a big screen TV for the gang interested in watching the world series (not me).<\/p>\n

\"day41_43\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . and like most hostels in this climate had a great outside living\/recreation area . . .<\/p>\n

\"day41_44\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . this hostel is a lot smaller than the one in San Francisco and much more \u2018homey\u2019 . . .<\/p>\n

\"day41_45\"<\/a><\/p>\n

. . . with only five boys needing beds, we got two rooms and everyone got a lower bunk (much easier for those mid night bathroom stops) . . .<\/p>\n

\"6\"<\/a><\/p>\n

What a GREAT celebratory last dinner we had at the Stone Brewery. The group on this tour have been healthy eaters . . .<\/p>\n

. . . but due to the volume of daily calories consumed, we will definitely need to cut back once we begin our \u2018return to life as we know it\u2019!!!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
