Pam quickly \u2018dispatched\u2019 them with her cycling shoe!! She lives by the rule in UT, \u2018if it is outside the house it lives, if it is inside the house it\u2019s dead\u2019 !!! On the way out of town we passed the Embassy Suites which looked like a nice place . . .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_02\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_02_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_02\" width=\"1004\" height=\"639\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . and is where \u2018Larry the Cable Guy\u2019 stays when he is on the road. No wonder cable rates are so high!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_03.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_03\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_03_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_03\" width=\"1004\" height=\"779\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We create quite the scene when our peloton rolls out of town in the morning, often literally bringing traffic to a stop. Lot\u2019s of red flashing lights attached to panniers!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_04.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_04\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_04_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_04\" width=\"1004\" height=\"611\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We had a 16 mile \u2018gentle climb\u2019 out of Lompoc this morning and before you knew it there was a NICE two mile downhill. Yippee!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_05.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_05\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_05_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_05\" width=\"1004\" height=\"519\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the way down we passed through a narrow canyon where there was room for the southbound lanes, but not for the northbound . . . so they built them a tunnel. First time we have seen that!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_06.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_06\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_06_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_06\" width=\"1004\" height=\"421\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Soon we were back on the coast, and passed El Capitan State Park, where we were to have stayed except now for the \u2018campground mechanical problems\u2019 and Gaviota State Park, shown above, which looked quite nice. Would have been nice to camped under palm trees!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_07.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_07\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_07_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_07\" width=\"1004\" height=\"754\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>At the 50 mile mark we entered civilization again, the twin communities of Goleta and Santa Barbara, combined population of over 100,000. A great system of bicycle paths kept us off Hwy 101 and the busy streets. We rolled by an example of an old gas station . . .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_08.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_08\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_08_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_08\" width=\"1004\" height=\"743\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . that is just waiting for some restoration $$$$. Probably the kind of place where the attendant wore a white shirt,\u00a0 a\u00a0 hat at a \u2018rakish angle\u2019 and a bowtie. The \u2018Postman Always Ring Twice\u2019 was filmed here in the 1980\u2019s. We have passed a number of movie location sites on this trip. No need to venture too far out of Hollywood for great movie backdrops.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_09.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_09\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_09_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_09\" width=\"1004\" height=\"331\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Just another golf course, yes, but the first time we have seen off shore oil drilling platforms. They look like aircraft carriers to me, anchored out at sea.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_10.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_10\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_10_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_10\" width=\"1004\" height=\"596\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There was a five mile trail connecting the two communities of Goleta and Santa Barbara that ran through\u00a0 residential areas. Along the way was this Teen Sports internet radio station featuring the \u2018Queen of Teen\u2019 . . .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_11\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_11_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_11\" width=\"1004\" height=\"778\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . and the King, making a local appearance. Hard to believe the teen listeners would even know who Elvis is!!! When we were eating out the other night, Frank Sinatra was playing on the Muzak and it was interesting to hear one of the young servers explaining to several others\u00a0 who the &#8216;Rat Pack\u2019 was!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_12.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_12\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_12_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_12\" width=\"1004\" height=\"550\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . quiet areas along the way . . .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_13.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_13\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_13_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_13\" width=\"1004\" height=\"589\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. .\u00a0 and the first splashes of bougainvillea colors along the way . . . hopefully more to come . . .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_14.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_14\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_14_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_14\" width=\"1004\" height=\"472\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . I decided to eat lunch before entering Santa Barbara and stopped to use this horse riding rink viewing stand of a local riding club . . . Connie was almost engulfed by the aloe type plants growing on the side of the court.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_15.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_15\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_15_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_15\" width=\"1004\" height=\"491\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Great setting close to Santa Barbara . . .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_16.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_16\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_16_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_16\" width=\"1004\" height=\"521\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . and as I rode through the Santa Barbara College campus it was evident EVERYONE on campus must own a bike . . .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_17.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_17\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_17_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_17\" width=\"1004\" height=\"611\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . so organized, they had many bike lanes and round abouts along the way . . .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_18.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_18\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_18_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_18\" width=\"1004\" height=\"559\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . as I left campus, I noticed a yoga class taking place on one of the green spaces. By the time I got my camera out they were on to the \u2018COBRA\u2019. Denise, our resident PT expert thought they had quite good form (no tight glutes)\u00a0 . . . of course, they are in their twenties and much more limber that us oldsters!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_19.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_19\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_19_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_19\" width=\"1004\" height=\"540\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . on into Santa Barbara where the avenues are wide, have a nice paved shoulder AND an additional running\/walking and two way biking lanes adjacent the roadway. VERY non-motorized friendly!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_20.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_20\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_20_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_20\" width=\"1004\" height=\"704\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . only a couple of streets off route was State Street, where Joe said the beautiful people hang out, so most of us thought we would fit right in and cruised down the avenue. LOTS of shopping available.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_21.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_21\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_21_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_21\" width=\"1004\" height=\"744\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . more great flowers and architecture . . .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_22.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_22\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_22_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_22\" width=\"1004\" height=\"794\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . even a poochie dog club!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_21a.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day36_21a\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day36_21a_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day36_21a\" width=\"1004\" height=\"618\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . .\u00a0 as I entered State Street I heard some great piano music and thought the music was being piped in via outdoor speakers . . . but here in front of Starbucks was the source. A young man playing an upright with a crowd gathered around listening . . .\u00a0 nice going Starbucks. . . but as I rolled on I realized there was a piano on nearly every corner being played by folks who just wandered by, and if they had the ability, stopped and played a song or two. Nice, really nice. So the west coast has piano music, Rich says in W Virginia they have had outdoor weatherized pianos on street corners for years . . . guess the trend from either coast has not got to the Midwest yet. Of course, our snow may have something to do with that. Nice setting right outside our room. Can\u2019t wait to share tini\u2019s with her and catch up on the last six weeks. YUM . . .
