They finally made it after several attempts.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_05.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day16_05\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_05_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day16_05\" width=\"1004\" height=\"750\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Rich and I took a short detour UPHILL to view the Umpahati lighthouse. Still a working lighthouse, it\u2019s 2 ton bezel cut lens, ground in Paris, France, beams out into the ocean.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_06.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day16_06\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_06_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day16_06\" width=\"1004\" height=\"527\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>On the way up to the lighthouse we passed out of the tsunami zone. I wonder how accurate this blue line is!!! Hope the locals never need to find out.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_07.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day16_07\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_07_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day16_07\" width=\"1004\" height=\"604\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We rode along the Oregon Sand Dunes monument area today and in some locations the dunes are fighting with the roadway for the same space!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_08.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day16_08\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_08_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day16_08\" width=\"1004\" height=\"754\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>miles and miles of sand . .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_09.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day16_09\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_09_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day16_09\" width=\"1004\" height=\"437\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . of which some has been opened up for dune buggies, hopefully a minimal acreage. These areas, environmentally, are very fragile<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_16.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day16_16\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_16_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day16_16\" width=\"1004\" height=\"441\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . at our map meeting last night Ryan had briefed us on what has been described as the \u2018most horrific riding experience\u2019 on the Pacific Coast ride. The 1.5 mile long high bridge we needed to cross. Soon it came into view . . . gulp!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_15.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day16_15\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_15_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day16_15\" width=\"1004\" height=\"494\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . no shoulder, no \u2018riders on bridge\u2019 flashing lights and high winds. What could go wrong???? Lucky for all of us, nothing did go wrong. Four of our riders got \u2018coal-rolled\u2019 on the bridge, including me. BUT . .\u00a0 as I crossed the last high span there was no traffic coming behind me and I could see a large truck in my rear view mirror. As we rode off the bridge, I could see it was a fully loaded logging truck with its four way flashers on, that had held traffic back as I rolled across the last quarter of the bridge. I gave the driver a thumbs up, he flashed his truck lights, and we both went on our way. A redemption in my mind for all the \u2018other logging truck experience&#8217;s we have had!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day16_11\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_11_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day16_11\" width=\"1004\" height=\"312\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Soon we were along the coast again, the sky was blue, the temps above 60 degrees and we rolled into Charleston, and Sunset Beach State Park, our home for the night.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_12.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day16_12\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_12_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day16_12\" width=\"1004\" height=\"754\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Ryan and Mike had cooking duty tonight,\u00a0 and produced a wonderful meal of peppers stuffed with rice, hamburger or tofu, a BIG salad and roasted Brussels spouts!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_13.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day16_13\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_13_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day16_13\" width=\"1004\" height=\"599\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . Jenny helped out with the salad. Ryan likes to take a \u2018hit\u2019 of olive oil every once in a while just for the fun of it!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_14.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day16_14\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/10\/day16_14_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day16_14\" width=\"1004\" height=\"754\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Mike likes to sleep with his Lynskey bike in his tent.
