{"id":19480,"date":"2019-09-29T10:19:36","date_gmt":"2019-09-29T15:19:36","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.wohutravels.us\/?p=19480"},"modified":"2019-11-14T11:47:24","modified_gmt":"2019-11-14T17:47:24","slug":"day-7-belfare-state-park-to-elma","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/?p=19480","title":{"rendered":"Day 7, Belfair State Park to Elma"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_01.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day7_01\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_01_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day7_01\" width=\"1004\" height=\"666\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>I\u2019m pretty much back on my morning schedule, getting up at\u00a0 5:00 \u2013 5:30am.\u00a0 At about 5;45am the tents start lighting up like mushrooms as the others awake.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day7_02\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_02_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day7_02\" width=\"1004\" height=\"624\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The sun FINALLY comes up about 7:15am . . . and the temps are usually in the lower 50\u2019s . . . not too bad if it is not raining!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_03.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day7_03\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_03_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day7_03\" width=\"1004\" height=\"754\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Most riders start breakfast with their headlights on and by the time they are done it\u2019s light enough to start taking down tents . . . most are on the road by 8:00am.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_04.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day7_04\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_04_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day7_04\" width=\"1004\" height=\"800\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Oh, our chefs are taking care us veggie types, usually leaving the meat out until the end of their prep and then adding in either meat or tofu\/soy products.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_05.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day7_05\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_05_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day7_05\" width=\"1004\" height=\"764\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Gina is now 0 for 5 camping nights, having spent last night with her friend Robyn, who ended up only living about 3 miles down the road from our campsite. We&#8217;re beginning to think she has friends along the coast all the way to San Diego and may never spend a night in a tent.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_07.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day7_07\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_07_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day7_07\" width=\"1004\" height=\"743\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Today\u2019s ride started with a tour past Lake Mason, reminding me a lot of riding in northern Wisconsin. Beautiful lakes, heavy forest cover and nice cabins along the way . . . .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_08.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day7_08\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_08_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day7_08\" width=\"1004\" height=\"554\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . .\u00a0 and they are looking out for bikers too!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_09.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day7_09\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_09_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day7_09\" width=\"1004\" height=\"713\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . this gang may not like their neighbors!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_10.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day7_10\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_10_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day7_10\" width=\"1004\" height=\"742\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We stopped along the road, about half way to Elma, for a little break. Fall colors are starting to pop in the hardwoods.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_11.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day7_11\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_11_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day7_11\" width=\"1004\" height=\"775\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . and soon arrived at this little oasis, in the middle of a 25 mile stretch with nothing else around, and pulled in for an ice cream . . .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_12.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day7_12\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_12_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day7_12\" width=\"1004\" height=\"818\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . .\u00a0 and had a nice discussion with MaKayla who was only in her third day of employment at the store. I asked her about her clientele and she said there was a bunch of \u2018old people\u2019 who stopped by every morning and spent about an hour drinking coffee and telling stories. I asked her what she meant by \u2018old\u2019 ??? With a coy smile on her face, she said\u00a0 . . .\u201dolder than me\u201d!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_13.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day7_13\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_13_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day7_13\" width=\"1004\" height=\"699\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>A wide selection of goodies , . . we all had something different.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_14.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day7_14\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_14_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day7_14\" width=\"1004\" height=\"713\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>More political signage. WA must be a red state, haven\u2019t seen any Dem supporters.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_14a.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day7_14a\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_14a_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day7_14a\" width=\"1004\" height=\"668\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We are getting into some heavily timbered areas and clear cuts are starting to show up.\u00a0 Most of the areas have been replanted . . . nice!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_15.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day7_15\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_15_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day7_15\" width=\"1004\" height=\"735\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sure hope whoever had the little party along the road here was not driving near us . . . actually, I hope they were not driving at all!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_16.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day7_16\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_16_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day7_16\" width=\"1004\" height=\"678\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This small engine shop had a FUN mailbox!!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_17.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day7_17\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_17_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day7_17\" width=\"1004\" height=\"754\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The Elma Campground &amp; RV Park was SUPERB. It had the best grass I have ever slept on during a bike trip. No weeds, no rocks, no brown spots, 3 inch long grass . . . felt GREAT walking around with bare feet.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_17a.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day7_17a\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_17a_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day7_17a\" width=\"1004\" height=\"685\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . and Milt, the campground host, met us when we arrived giving us the code for the bathrooms and each of us a plastic bag with four freshly baked chocolate chip cookies. Still warm!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_18.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day7_18\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_18_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day7_18\" width=\"1004\" height=\"480\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of the daily routines is for most folks to do some laundry either in the shower or a utility sink. Most state campgrounds do not have laundry facilities. Time to put up the clothesline. Problem in the Pacific NW, during the fall, is with the cool temps, rain and a short daylight window nothing dries before the sun goes down. But they do dry some . . .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_19.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day7_19\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_19_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"day7_19\" width=\"1004\" height=\"710\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . unless you are busy working on a journal then Denise\u2019s Laundry Service will hand deliver your clean, folded wash, right to your tent!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_20.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"margin: 0px; display: inline; background-image: none;\" title=\"day7_20\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/09\/day7_20_thumb-1.jpg\" alt=\"day7_20\" width=\"1004\" height=\"831\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Dave and Joe were supposed to cook tonight but Joe needed to head into town, so Anne and Liz jumped in to help Dave. She just graduated with a degree in environment micro biology, and having missing the deadline to apply for graduate school, decided to bike from Vancouver, where she is from, to Mexico.
