First one on the trip and it would be blue sky ALL DAY (I guess we\u2019ll pay for it tomorrow when it is supposed to rain all day!!) A half hour down the road I came around a turn and there was the ferry we would catch this morning to get us across the river . . .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_02.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"ir_dy07_02\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_02_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"ir_dy07_02\" width=\"1004\" height=\"460\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . tide was out when I drove to the ferry dock in Passage East . . .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_03.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"ir_dy07_03\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_03_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"ir_dy07_03\" width=\"1004\" height=\"393\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . but the water was deep enough for the ferry and 10 minutes later the ferry arrived . . .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_04.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"ir_dy07_04\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_04_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"ir_dy07_04\" width=\"1004\" height=\"486\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . so had a few more riders so away we went. In fact, Bob and Mavis missed the ferry leaving by only 30 seconds and the captain backed up the ferry so thy could load . . . nice!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_05.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"ir_dy07_05\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_05_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"ir_dy07_05\" width=\"1004\" height=\"724\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Between these two towns they just about have the human body covered . . . funny!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_06.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"ir_dy07_06\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_06_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"ir_dy07_06\" width=\"1004\" height=\"398\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>One of the first sites we passed today was the ruins of the Dunbrody Abbey and Castle. The castle features an intricate yew hedge maze made up of 1,500 yew trees and gravel paths, only one of two full mazes in Ireland. Unfortunately, we rolled by about 9:30am and the whole thing did not open until 11:00am<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_07.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"ir_dy07_07\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_07_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"ir_dy07_07\" width=\"1004\" height=\"628\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>About ten kilometers down the road was the homestead of JFK\u2019s great grandfather, Patrick Kennedy . . . .<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_08.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"ir_dy07_08\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_08_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"ir_dy07_08\" width=\"1004\" height=\"654\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>. . . the exhibit traces his leaving Ireland as a famine emigrant to his great grandchildren&#8217;s return years later.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_09.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"ir_dy07_09\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_09_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"ir_dy07_09\" width=\"1004\" height=\"660\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Saw several very elaborate memorials to folks who died along the rural country roads. This young chap was only 19 years old.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_10.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"ir_dy07_10\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_10_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"ir_dy07_10\" width=\"1004\" height=\"469\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here was a new HUGE bridge being built on the outskirts of\u00a0 New Ross. I thought it was interesting they started on both ends AND the middle, connecting all the pieces. As many as 200 poor souls would be held below decks for the 40 day journey, rarely allowed to get up on deck. Needless to say the conditions were horrible . . . and many died during the trip.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_14.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"ir_dy07_14\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_14_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"ir_dy07_14\" width=\"1004\" height=\"539\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Here is a the Emigrant Flame that was lit from a flame carried to Ireland from the Kennedy \u2018Eternal Flame\u2019 Memorial in Arlington, VA. It traveled the 3,700 miles and lit this flame exactly 50 years after the visit of JFK.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_16.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"ir_dy07_16\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_16_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"ir_dy07_16\" width=\"1004\" height=\"534\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>As I rolled thought town in SLOWWWWWW Saturday traffic I passed Hanrahan\u2019s which looked like a nice place. Too bad I had already eaten lunch. I could see from the traffic issues the new bridge and bypass is VERY much needed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_17.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"ir_dy07_17\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_17_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"ir_dy07_17\" width=\"1004\" height=\"416\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Back out in the countryside, the views rolled by as I climbed up from the river. I guess they have powerline issues in Ireland too!!!! Even on the weekend these local roads had VERY little traffic. Maybe one car every 15 minutes and I got the idea they were homeowners along the way. Peaceful!! But the poochie \u2018telegraph\u2019 system announced our arrivals with one dog barking and the next one several houses down picking up the cadence. The dogs are very friendly and I never had one chase me. In the rural areas stores are rare and gas station mostly just sell . . . gas. Lucky for me Murphy\u2019s had a freezer full of ice cream novelties!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_23.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"ir_dy07_23\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_23_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"ir_dy07_23\" width=\"1004\" height=\"547\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Very, very nice riding today. Sounds like July and August are the best months to bike in Ireland. And it was the only hotel in town. So . . . we got a nice \u2018upgrade\u2019 to the Mount Wolseley, a country club, golf club, hotel and spa. Yippee (however it did make what would have been a 45 mile day into a 60 mile day to get here). <a href=\"https:\/\/www.mountwolseley.ie\/\">Here is their website.<\/a> In the lobby, I talked to an American from Atlanta, over in Ireland for a wedding. The wedding was yesterday, Friday, and the reception started last night and lasted until 6:00am this morning. At 3:00pm, when I rolled in and talked to him the wedding party was back in the bar . . . continuing the celebration!!!<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_30.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"background-image: none; padding-top: 0px; padding-left: 0px; margin: 0px; display: inline; padding-right: 0px; border-width: 0px;\" title=\"ir_dy07_30\" src=\"https:\/\/travels.wohu.us\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/08\/ir_dy07_30_thumb.jpg\" alt=\"ir_dy07_30\" width=\"1004\" height=\"652\" border=\"0\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Nice place . . . and once again we just rolled our bikes through the lobby and into one of the meeting rooms for overnight storage.
